Minky is a plush, ultra-soft fabric made from 100% polyester microfiber, knitted to create a dense, almost fur-like surface on one side. It's completely vegan and cruelty-free. Unlike fleece, minky has a single-sided pile with a deeper, softer hand, which is why it's a favorite for baby blankets, loveys, apparel, and cozy home goods.

Because minky is a knit with a pile, it behaves a little differently from cotton — it has some stretch, the pile has a direction (nap), and it sheds a bit at first. None of that is a defect; see "What's normal" for details and how to sew with it successfully.
