What is minky fabric (and Snuggles)?

What minky is made of, and what makes Snuggles different.

Minky is a plush, ultra-soft fabric made from 100% polyester microfiber, knitted to create a dense, almost fur-like surface on one side. It's completely vegan and cruelty-free. Unlike fleece, minky has a single-sided pile with a soft, plush hand, which is why it's a favorite for baby blankets, loveys, apparel, and cozy home goods. The minky base we print on is a lower-pile fabric — a short pile, 2.5mm as standard (3mm on request).

Snuggles™ is our own proprietary line of minky. We've developed a range of signature textures, each with its own pile and drape, so you can pick exactly the feel you want. See the "Snuggles texture guide" for the full lineup.

Quick facts:

  • Content: 100% polyester microfiber

  • Width: 58–60 inches

  • Pile height: 2.5–3mm for the printed minky base; 8–30mm across Snuggles textures

  • Feel: soft, plush, with a slight stretch typical of knit minky

Because minky is a knit with a pile, it behaves a little differently from cotton — it has some mechanical stretch, the pile has a direction (nap), and it sheds a bit at first (mainly from being cut during production). None of that is a defect; see "What's normal" for details and how to sew with it successfully.
