Fabric specs: width, composition, and pile

The standard specifications for our fabrics.

Most of our fabrics share these specs:

  • Composition: 100% polyester microfiber

  • Width: 58–60 inches

  • Pile height: approximately 3–5mm, depending on the texture

  • Care: machine wash cold, air dry, no heat (full details in "How to wash and care for your fabric")

A few things to keep in mind when planning a project:

  • Width matters for yardage. At 58–60 inches wide, you may need fewer yards than a pattern written for 44-inch quilting cotton assumes. Check your pattern's required width.

  • Nap direction. Minky has a pile that runs in one direction. For a consistent look (especially on large pieces), cut all panels with the nap running the same way.

  • Stretch. As a knit, minky has slight give. A walking foot and a stretch or ballpoint needle make sewing much easier.

If a specific product's width or composition differs from the above, it will be listed on that product's page. For exact specs on a particular fabric, check the product page or email [email protected].
